City FACTOIDS

  • City of Cottonwood Heights is organized on a “5 council/manager” form of governance

  • City Manager is the executive of the city

  • Mayor is a voting member of council and does not have veto authority

  • Mayor is the spokesperson for the city, chair of the council and has legal authority to sign documents

Results are in.

On November 4th, a majority in Cottonwood Heights District 4 have re-elected Ellen Birrell to represent them

“As thrilled as I am to have been selected by the majority of CWH voters, I'm well aware that many of you did not vote for me. It is my core value to be inclusive, consider all perspectives, find shared view points, and acknowledge new and different information.

I will continue to work to be prepared for Council meetings, pro-actively advance policy, process and legislation that offers clarity, transparency, accountability, and best serves Cottonwood Heights residents and businesses. I'll make mistakes and learn from them. I'll remain open to constructive criticism and strive for best practices.

My belief that public engagement with an informed and well-educated electorate is essential to continue a representative democracy.

My vision for Cottonwood Heights is a community united by our shared desire to thrive. A place in which those who reside, work and visit enjoy safety, equity and inclusion. A city in which we are careful with spending, balance our budget, and value conservation of our natural and built world. Where we are fiscally conservative and expand best life style. Where we thrive!

Again, to those who voted for me and to those who did not, I pledge that I will hear every one of your voices, listen actively, consider diverse perspectives from my own, and then legislate as I must.

Decisions can be hard. Good decisions harder. And, make decisions we must for the well-being, safety and fiscal solvency of our shared future.

See you around the 'hood!

In community,

Ellen Birrell”
