Proud to represent you on the Cottonwood Heights City Council.

Welcome to “News of D4 & Beyond”

Results of May 19th council vote for CWH to continue on the URC Utah Renewable Communities whether CWH residents can choose NetZero Carbon Emissions by 2030 for their Rocky Mountain Power electricity usage:

3 Council Members - No

CM Birrell and Mayor - Yes

What the vote to leave URC means for you:

When the other cities and counties in Utah who voted to remain in URC will have $4 added to resident electricity bill each month (unless given residents “opt out” — which can be done at any time).

By 2030, RMP estimates the monthly fee will be $.32 AND they’ll have created clean energy sites that produce net zero emissions for those customers.

CWH residents will continue to receive electricity sourced 57% from burning coal and oil.

You will be able to continue to choose Blue Sky program which costs you approximately $14 per month for average electricity usage.

With solar and wind trending cheaper year over year, we will likely miss out on the URC savings.

There is no mechanism currently in place to get back into URC. If made available in the future, will that be at great expense in the future? (CWH has already put considerable resources into URC since 2019. The council majority vote has brought that to an end.)
