CHPD
As a city councilwoman, I'll take my role of addressing public safety as a priority. This comes in the form of examining where danger historically lies in our city both on the roads and within neighborhoods, businesses and homes. Then, working with city engineers, planners and other staff, Cottonwood Heights Police Department (CHPD) and Unified Fire Authority (UFA) related to creating safer mobility, safer conditions in our homes, neighborhoods and business areas and reducing crime.
Public safety is a city's Job #1. Keeping our children, adults and elderly feeling safe and protecting them from harm is at the top of my list. The Cottonwood Heights Police Department (CHPD) and Unified Fire Authority (UFA) are instrumental in this process.
Livable wages are important. According to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's livingwage.mit.edu, a family of four in Salt Lake County with one adult working: $37.82 hourly; if two adults working: $20.88. Due to the shortage of approximately 63 police officers within SLCO, it is important that the CHPD be able to recruit new and retain experienced officers. If elected, I'll meet with and receive education on the various needs of the CHPD. With the knowledge I have at this point, my recommendation is for more modesty in the vehicular fleet in favor of better pay, retirement and benefits for the officers.
Our city has every opportunity to meet and exceed the highest standards. Let's work together, collaborate and succeed!
