“Gondola No!”
Gondola No! Rally 2-4pm, Saturday, September 25th
For all of us that love our Utah mountains, foothills and canyons, please help MAKE THIS INFORMATION go viral by sharing with neighbors and family, within their social media and texting this to friends.
A monster sized gondola and road widening of the length of SR 210 from Bengal Blvd to Alta brings with it faster, noisier, polluting vehicular traffic through our neighborhoods. Statistically, these wider roads mean more motorist injuries and fatalities not to mention cyclists, pedestrians, especially when you factor in eleven neighborhood intersecting streets within Cottonwood Heights section.
Improvement yes. Expansion and build out no -- INCLUDING A COMMERCIAL GONDOLA.
Immediately benign and practical restrictions could realize UDOT’s LCC EIS purpose and need of reducing vehicles on SR 210 by 30% by 2050.
No single occupancy vehicles 8-10am and 2-4pm on peak periods during winter removes 35%+ of vehicles and achieves UDOT's stated goal. Many other improvements made to buses direct to each resort from more numerous "Transit & Car Pool" lots, higher frequency, etc; infrastructure-a bus rider friendly facility (UTA owned) at each of the resort offering restrooms, tables, inexpensive lockers; better local decal program. So many small improvements that equal better mobility.
Don't let this gondola or highway build out decision be made by an agency that is only in the business of accommodating vehicular convenience.
UDOT is in the business of asphalting.
Unless our elected representatives come forth with resolution indicating "less asphalt, more transportation alternatives", we will succumb to UDOT's consumptive mission of achieving convenience for motorists over the safety and health of the general public. That is, we need to release a stranglehold on overdeveloping (i.e. wider roads, new parking lots, huge commerical buildings) and move into the 21st century.
SmartCity planning is part of that answer.
Break away from your Saturday activities for two hours and join our effort to preserve our foothills, canyons, our treasured quality of life.
