Outdoor Education Center at Wheeler Farm
I am thrilled to learn from Rep. Bennion’s newsletter about the groundbreaking for Wheeler Farm's "building will include a teaching space where programming will include: immersive nature walks, learning opportunities about current and historic farming practices, horticulture, livestock management, watershed science, urban forestry, and volunteer opportunities to encourage community involvement.”
This aligns with what I believe in — nurturing a greater understanding and appreciation of the natural world, our impact, our stewardship.
Although Wheeler Farm is not located in Cottonwood Heights, it could be a lovely bicycle ride away utilizing a planned Active Transportation route. This has begun but we’ve got a long way to go for our city to have Safe Routes to Schools, as well as, between neighborhoods and accessing grocery stores, parks, local businesses and restaurants.
Check out this map to see that the Knudson Trail connecting Big Cottonwood Canyon parking lot with Holladay’s Knudson Park underneath I-215 that Mayor Peterson started and our PTOS (Parks, Trails & Open Space Committee) oversees, does not offer safe bicycling westward.
Suggestion: Let our mayor and all city council members know that connected bike lanes and trails that create connectivity within Cottonwood Heights AND connect regionally is important to you, your family & friends.
