Report brief on April 17th Council Meeting
Sensitive Lands Evaluation & Development Standards (SLEDS) (think areas of our city with fault lines and/or riparian (stream & wetland) features. Examples: gravel pit mouth of BCC, Dover Hills parcel, Canyon Centre): Economic Dev Director indicates that the amended final draft of SLEDS ordinance will be made available in May.
Dover Hills agreement: Ivory Homes has finalized their purchase of the full seven acres from LDS Real Estate with the understanding that they will build the public park portion. The council has not finalized a decision. I gave input that the view shed of existing residents should be protected as much as possible with Ivory’s building of 13 new homes, and suggested that Ivory offer only home designs which are one story instead of two along the north end of the parcel.
Budget fiscal 2023/24 preliminary discussion: See ch.utah.gov for full meeting minutes. I advocated for monies to be added to the budget to address traffic jams during snow mornings along affected local, collector, arterials and state routes AND that those additional officers necessary (according to Chief Russo, it would need to be one, preferably three officers) could be focused on citing speeders, unmuffled and noisy vehicles and motorcyclists — especially along Wasatch Blvd/SR 210 throughout the spring, summer and fall. No council member or the mayor voiced support.
2023 Election discussion and consensus RE Ranked Choice Voting or Primary/General system: A consensus was taken. Council Member Bracken along with Mayor Weichers, who spoke for himself and absent Council Member Petersen, were in favor of abandoning the Ranked Choice Voting pilot program in 2023. Council Members Newell and Birrell argued in favor of continuing within the RCV program. Consensus was in favor of CH returning to the primary/general election process for 2023. This will be reported to SLCO Elections Department by end of April. Filing Period to run for District 1 or District 2 is June 1-7. https://slco.org/clerk/elections/for-candidates/
