SLC leading the way!
From KSL’s March 4, 2022 article “Salt Lake City to study ‘bold’ plan to reduce speed limits. Will it make streets safer?”
“When a vehicle reduces its speed from 30 mph to 20 mph, the likelihood a person struck by a vehicle on a street survives increases from 60% to 90%, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.”
Cottonwood Heights’ public works director is studying how to designate slower speed design of our collectors and arterials from, currently, 50mph maximum down to 30mph. We still have much to do in Cottonwood Heights to reach “Systematic Safety” that protects motorists, pedestrians and cyclists, but we’re working on it!
Community coalition SaveNotPave.org continues to work vigorously in support of a safer, more connected Cottonwood Heights that fosters citizens desire and ability to walk and cycle safely for running errands and accessing schools, parks, churches, trailheads, green spaces and other neighborhoods.
