UDOT announcement of 23-lane width growth for I-15
Excerpted from a SweetStreets.org email on November 12, 2022. I have taken the liberty to edit for the benefit and relevance to Cottonwood Heights residents. If you’re unfamiliar with SweetStreets.org and you care about walkability for Cottonwood Hts, I recommend you look into their organization as they are influencing marvelous developments for SLC proper and are a model for citizen-lead city-wide improvement.

PS Below the SweetStreets piece is information from the Utah Transit Riders Union which is worth the read on this concerning phenomena of unbridled asphalt build out.
UDOT has published its proposed plans for Interstate-15 from Salt Lake City to Farmington. Though their plans contain some small improvements for non-car users the biggest change is an expansion to between 18 to 23 lanes wide. This kind of change would further divide community and displace westside residents.
We know from numerous studies and over 50 years of freeway expansions across the country that this will only worsen our air quality, increase traffic, disincentivize transit and active transportation and reduce our overall quality of life in Utah.
The federal government is taking steps to support communities in reducing highways that cut through communities, like this project in Detroit. UDOT, instead, is looking to expand highways in our neighborhoods.
We'd like you to show up to UDOT's first in-person open house on Tuesday to learn more and share your feedback.
