Spring run off

Once you pull debris from the stream bed, pile it on the street in front of your home and call the public works team at 801-944-7000 to remove it from the street. The public works team can ONLY pick up stream debris, not other household items or yard waste.

Full letter from CH City:

“If your property is adjacent to either Big Cottonwood Creek or Little Cottonwood Creek Salt Lake County Flood Control facilities, the county has conveyed that you are responsible for monitoring debris in the streambed or near the stream banks and clearing it before stream levels rise to help prevent flooding and property damage. While it is not a Salt Lake County Flood Control Facility, if you live along Deaf Smith Creek, you are also responsible to monitor the debris and clear it before stream levels rise.

Please keep all yard debris away from the stream banks and out of the stream. Debris can easily get swept away when stream levels rise. Once branches, grass clippings, leaf piles, firewood, lumber, and other debris get into the stream, they can block culvert openings, snag on bridge crossings, or quickly clog in-stream trash grates. This can cause flooding, severe bank erosion, and property damage.

Once you pull debris from the stream, pile it on the street in front of your home and call the public works team at 801-944-7000 to remove it from the street. The public works team can ONLY pick up stream debris, not other household items or yard waste.

We want to emphasize that safety is most important. Once the creek has risen and is flowing high, do not enter the creek to try to remove debris. You can easily be swept into the current.

We strongly encourage you to check stormwater inlet grates near your home and remove any debris there as well. If you need help or to report a blocked inlet in the city, call the public works team at 801-944-7000 or fill out the form at ch.utah.gov/public-works.

For more information about flood preparation, visit ch.utah.gov/floods or call the public works team at 801-944-7000.”
