First “Intro to E-Bikes” a success!
65 people participated in the "Intro to E-Bikes" which Ellen Birrell Cottonwood Heights District 4 and Magnum Electric Bicycles hosted July 21st, and hope to make an annually occurring educational, community event.
40 participants chose to try out Magnum's demo E-Bikes by riding them inside the safety of park sidewalks. More experienced riders took to their own E-Bikes on a Guided Ride within a Neighborhood Bypass Route above the park and over to the multi-use path connecting to Holladay's Knudson Park.
At the park a large map showing suggested Neighborhood Bypass Routes for CH as part of a "safety, connectivity and active transportation initiative" envisioned by CH Council Member Ellen Birrell. Birrell shared her vision for mobility within CH featuring the US Department of Transportation's Safe System approach. Mayor Michael Weichers greeted the gathered group and representatives of Save Not Pave, Magnum Electric Bicycles and ex-vice chair of the SLCO Bicycle Advisory Committee Eric Kraan shared remarks. In Salt Lake County with its mild climate and with rising gasoline prices, increasing vehicular violence and rising levels of ozone and PM2.5 hazardous particulates in the air shed more and more residents consider walking, transit, cycling and E-Biking within their daily trip mix.
