SLCO. Partners with Cottonwood Hts to achieve our goals.

I am a firm believer in thinking holistically. My twist on a famous adage:

“Think globally/regionally. Act locally/regionally.”

It was a thrill to attend the recent Salt Lake County Inauguration Ceremony. Inspirational speeches and touching moments of acknowledging Sherrie Swenson for her 30+ years of public service. Mayor Wilson said, “I researched this and I’m pretty sure that Sherrie Swenson is the longest running female elected official in Utah’s history.” As County Clerk, Sherrie Swenson brought our community through a number of staggering historical happenings from introducing vote by mail to making it mainstream, implementing gay marriage licenses and piloting Ranked Choice Voting.

Thought you might like to read the sentiments of newly elected Suzanne Harrison to an At-large seat on the County Council: “I’ve been getting settled in and getting to work here at the Salt Lake County Council. Anyone who cares about our canyons knows there have been some weather challenges this year and that transit has been espeically challenging as UTA has reduced and suspended some of their ski bus services. This suspension and reduction in service has resulted in significant, adverse effect on the traffic and access to and through the Cottonwood Canyons (BCC and LCC), thereby posing a risk to air quality, visitor experience and economic viability of these areas. Yesterday I voted for a proposal to fund a short-term project in coordination with Visit Salt Lake to provide additional temporary public transit service to and within the Cottonwood Canyons during the remainder of this ski season. This is an important short-term solution as public transit helps to improve air quality during Salt Lake County’s winter inversion season. More people on public transit means less tail pipe emissions. Less fuel burned means better air quality. By not having to rent a vehicle, we can reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the valley and in the Cottonwood Canyons. In the long-term, I will continue to work with stakeholders to address the transit challenges we face in Salt Lake County.”
