UDOT’s preferred build out of Wasatch Blvd and LCC
Within the Utah Department of Transportation's Little Cottonwood Canyon Environmental Impact Statement (LCC EIS) there is a focus on build out. Build out of more concrete, asphalt, roadways and/or gondola towers. This is what they have in mind for SR 210 within both Wasatch Blvd and the 8-miles of Little Cottonwood Canyon.
We cannot build our way out of our population growth challenges unless we want the associated degradation to our natural places, our soils and our air shed and the danger that high volume, fast moving cars and trucks bring.
When a people are fortunate enough to have the sacred beauty and recreational paradise that we have in Cottonwood Heights, in our foothills and nearby canyons, we also must be the wise stewards. With small amounts of new discipline, we can make modifications to our mobility. It will take political will for modifications that include shuttles, carpooling, aesthetically & functionally improved bus service during anticipated peak periods. Think of how the little town of Springdale, Utah, incorporated eight free shuttle stops to move the crush of visitors each summer to adjacent Zions National Park.
Cottonwood Heights: We can do it! Let's come up with ways to move people not continue a motor-vehicle focus that brings more loud, fast, dangerous vehicles through our precious bedroom-community. Our community: the Gateway to Big & Little Cottonwood Canyons.
